I used to be quicker about jumping in and helping someone. Now, I’m more apt to think about it first. Do I really want to get involved in someone else’s problems? Is the other person truly in need or is it a sham? I’ve had a couple of unpleasant interactions so it’s difficult to trust my own instincts and the motivation of others.

Unless, they’re old folks. I don’t hesitate to help old people, even the grumpy ones.
